Synopsis

Nothing can be as Crazy is a story of a typical service-class Indian Suresh who joins the bank as a probationer and who being straight and a bit conservative finds himself out of sync at every stage of life with the wily world around. Suresh, being a second-generation city migrant, has acquired the urban garb but not completely, and still finds certain things beyond his perception. He has his own set of moral norms, which reserve certain conducts to males only. . . . . .

Over a period of time Suresh turns into a quite matured man from the free-bird of the training-period, but perhaps, things don’t change for his old flame Aparna when her behaviour baffles Suresh no-end to find that fire is still there, even after ten years. It exposes Suresh of double standards when he enters into a ‘deal’, spoiling somebody’s career for manipulating the ‘Guard of Honour’ for his top boss. The unexpected twist of events, however, leads to the arrest of his most upright batch-mate Philipose, and then his own transfer disgracefully, which leaves him totally aghast. The story takes a dramatic turn when his college-going son suddenly stops coming home during vacations from the college boarding.

The novel, set in the environs of Hyderabad, Calcutta and U.P., including Kanpur & Lucknow, gives a graphic description of life in the urban middle-class and what goes on behind the scene. The story realistically reflects the life and the struggle of a typical middle-class Indian in the form of Suresh. Will he be able to get over the system or will he fall in line? How a person suffers if he refuses to subscribe to the dubious system around! Can he show he could still survive?
